Beach Theatre may get a new life

Those of us who have been around a while remember Beach Threatre on Corey Avenue with a little nostalgia. It has been closed for a decade, but now may have a new life.
Here is a background story on the family that bought the theatre and plans to reopen it as a movie venue and also for other productions, including stage performances.

The Tampa Bay Times just reported:

The Beach Theatre is officially under new ownership!” reads a Facebook post shared on the Beach Theatre page Friday morning. “We plan to reopen as a movie theatre/live theatre space!”

A woman named Hannah Hockman purchased the theater with her family, according to an Instagram post. The sales price and other details of the purchase were not immediately available.

The art deco movie theater, located at 315 Corey Ave., opened in January 1940. It became dormant after owner Michael France Jr., a Hollywood screenplay writer, died in 2013. Legal entanglements kept the building shuttered for nearly a decade.

The previous owner held community meetings and even a fundraiser or two but could not reopen the doors. The theatre fell into disrepair.
