An important message from our Association President Scott Steiss about the Dolphin Bridge

7 p.m. October 10:

Neighborhood Update Following Hurricane Milton from Association President Scott Steiss

As you’re all aware, our neighborhood experienced significant damage during the recent hurricanes. Fortunately, we avoided a tidal surge this time, but the -2-foot drop in water level and major winds/rains caused major issues. The Dolphin Blvd. bridge was washed out due to heavy rain, and the seawall has been compromised, which is continuing to erode the sand under the asphalt. One of our neighbors also had his entire seawall and property wash out from underneath.

After speaking with Pinellas County inspectors, they estimate that repairing the roadway may take up to a year. For now, the bridge is open with one lane of traffic, but everyone is advised to go slow and use extreme caution. The Pinellas County inspector also told us that that is the only seawall to fail in Pinellas County, so it will be number one on the list of that type of repair. But for now, the road is unstable and could wash out further, so please travel at your own risk.

The road may be closed in the near future. (More on that when we have the information. We will post notifications on our neighborhood Facebook site and right where on 33707news.com.)

I also informed Willie Sands about the damage to the bridge. He is the TECO manager in charge of the right-a-way. He is going to inform the higher-ups about the damage.

We surveyed the neighborhood and found that most roads are passable except for Marion Street/Renaldo/Augusta where a couple sections are blocked by fallen trees.

Please be aware that the neighborhood is still very wet, (especially Robin Rd) and there’s a lot of debris, including nails and screws on the roads. Take extra care if you’re returning to the area. We have no power (as of 6pm Oct 10.)

We ask everyone to be patient while driving, and please remind any workers or contractors to drive slowly as well.

Together, we will rebuild and make our neighborhood even better for the future!
