Neighbors voice concerns over traffic stops

(May 14, 2026) More than 20 residents attended tonight’s neighborhood meeting, which included a presentation from Nicole Estrella of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Following the presentation, residents voiced growing concerns over what many described as excessive traffic enforcement at two neighborhood stop-sign intersections that they believe are poorly designed.

Many attendees shared experiences of being stopped, ticketed, or warned at those intersections, with many in the room indicating they had personally been pulled over. Residents questioned whether enforcement efforts are focused more on traffic citation numbers than on improving public safety.

Sheriff’s Office representatives encouraged residents to submit their concerns directly through the agency’s official commendation and complaint form. Nicole Estrella stated that the concerns raised during the meeting would be passed along to leadership for review.

One message repeatedly echoed throughout the evening: residents want safer streets but they also want fair and reasonable enforcement.
